New Kindle: Oasis

Hey everyone,

Have you heard the great news?! Amazon has just released a new Kindle!

Amazon named it Kindle Oasis. It’s the company’s next big step toward its goal of thinnest paper. It’s the thinnest and lightest e-reader ever made, yet it has a 9-week reading battery, ergonomic grip, and page-turn buttons.

What’s more, the display provides 60% more light.  It’s also sold with a high-quality case, which attaches magnetically to be back of Kindle Oasis. The case allows you to charge your Kindle battery at an impressing rate of 1 hour of reading time each 10 minutes.  When you close the case, it turns off the screen, sending the Kindle into a new lower-power hibernation state.

I couldn’t agree more with what Chris Green, vice president of industrial design of devices for Amazon, said about the battery:

“We’re now measuring battery life in months, because no one wants to be stopped from finding out who the killer is because the battery died.”

Kindle oasis is available now for pre-order and shipping within two weeks, at Amazon page.

On a particular note for authors, Amazon has said that its Kindle store now has 4.4m ebook available (1m exclusive), with 1.1m added in the last 12 months.

Arthur Van Rest, Amazon’s director of product management for devices in the EU, said:

“Our Kindle sales are up. People are reading more books than ever before, and we’re investing more money in devices and in the store. We are fully committed to the ebook market.”

There’s has never been a better time to read books and write them!
